Published: 25 July 2009 The Treasure Coast Palm I like Florida Hometown Democracy because we have watched the current system for at least the last 40 years, with commissioners approving project after project with more density in them than they deserve, and we see the result all around us. Our taxes are going up, our schools and roads are overcrowded, and the water and sewer systems are strained. What do we have to do to get there attention? Hometown Democracy is the answer, and I think the people who got us into this mess are listening now. However, it may be to late for them because FHD is on the 2010 ballot. Then it will be up to the voters. When we know the result of that vote, we will know just how mad voters/taxpayers are about the items I just mentioned. In the meantime, watch out for the scare tactics/lies from the people in charge of this mess. They are running scared, so they poison the air with fears. What they are afraid of is that you, the taxpayer/voter, will take away their final word like they have approved in ways they have in the past. Don’t believe the lies that we will have to go to the polls for every amendment change. We won’t. We wouldn’t be able to do that, but it makes good press for them. Just know that you will be able to vote for or against big projects coming into your neighborhood, and you will be able to say no to them if FHD becomes law. When you voiced your objections to commissioners and staff in the past you were ignored. When FHD becomes law in the fall of 2010 just think about the meaning your opinion will have then ... that, my voting friends, is what they are so afraid of. Joe Florio Jensen Beach |
