Petitions can be downloaded at floridahometowndemocracy.org. One word of warning: Do not be fooled by the petition being circulated by Floridians for Smarter Growth. That’s the petition funded by Big Sugar and other major land developers cleverly designed to look like FHD, but, in truth, makes it harder for us to have a say. That petition is likely (but not absolutely) to be on colored paper so the paid circulator and signature gatherer can be credited $3 per signature. Remember, if the petition doesn’t say “return to Florida Hometown Democracy Inc.,” it’s the wrong petition. FHD is a truly grass-roots effort and doesn’t have deep pockets; it only has people like us who are tired of the increased cost of living and decreased standard of living that rampant or haphazard growth brings. There’s no time to lose. Florida Hometown Democracy can’t happen soon enough -- the developers will be hungrier and more rapacious than ever once the economy recovers. Laura McKee Sebastian |
